"...haunting, catchy melodies and wry vocals in the style of Alanis Morisette and maybe Regina Spektor...Her songs are highly original and laced with humour and literary references.... an inspiring live performer..."

Annika Brown and the Deep

Members:

Annika Brown - vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica

James Bandenburg - guitars, mandolin, harmonic

The Brighton-based singer songwriter successfully fuses her eclectic influences, ranging from Carole King to Nick Cave and Regina Spektor, into a distinctive sound of her own. Having started out as a poet and a literature student, her lyrics are the heart of her songs, but having been passionately involved with music from a young age, the music is their life blood. Drawing on folk, rock, blues, pop and some classical influences, Annika seeks to playfully transcend conventions and yet be still accessible to wide range of people. At present she is performing with James Bandenburg as Annika Brown and the Deep.

James grew up in the Suffolk countryside and his musical career started when he started playing the piano in 1999, which he found to be a very difficult time signature to play in. He is a multi-instrumentalist who also plays guitar, mandolin and harmonica and sings. He loves folk music and noisy alternative rock but not much in between, apart from Nick Cave. He eventually moved to Brighton via Birmingham, and one day he was walking past Annika's house while she was looking for a guitarist and he's never looked back.
